Peer Tutors in the Academic Resource Hub enjoy a flexible schedule, targeted professional development, and a means to make extra money while helping their fellow students. Peer tutors can choose to tutor one course, or as many as five. Ideally, they will have taken the course they intend to tutor at Lafayette, and have earned a ‘B’ or better with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8. We hire students who have been awarded Federal Work Study as part of their financial aid package, as well as any other student who is eligible to work in the United States.
ALL NEW and RETURNING Peer Educators must complete the appropriate application (link below) each semester providing availability and course competencies. This includes all candidates seeking SI Leader, Mentored Study Group Leader, DropIn Tutor, or Individual Peer Tutor positions.
New tutors should seek a recommendation from a professor in the primary area that they intend to tutor. A request may be sent to the professor through the application.
Hub Application Spring 2025 Positions
Application opens on November 4, 2024. Official hire notices are sent for the fall positions in April, May, and June; spring semester notices are sent in November, December, and January.
The Academic Resource Hub’s tutor training program will seek to meet the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) Level 1 requirement and hopes to be authorized to certify tutors under the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) guidelines. Tutors begin with 2 orientation sessions which contain (almost) everything needed to tutor for the Academic Resource Hub. Additional training sessions are offered throughout the academic year with targeted ITTPC topics covered. Additional session information can be found in the Academic_Hub_Certification_Curriculum. The requirements and guidelines to meet the Peer Tutor Level 1 certification are presented at orientation.
The Academic Resource Hub has partnered with Innovative Educators to provide on-demand tutor training video workshops. To access the workshops, go to TutorLingo, create a user profile, and begin viewing the resources. The Hub maintains a record of the courses you complete and applies it to your training hours for CRLA certification.
