Housing Accommodations

Lafayette College is committed to providing reasonable and appropriate housing accommodations to students with disabilities. The housing accommodations request process is intended to address housing needs that cannot be met through the general room selection process.

The process begins with identifying the student’s essential needs and then determining appropriate accommodation(s) and/or appropriate housing placement that addresses those particular needs. Accessibility Services requires supporting documentation from a qualified licensed professional that identifies how a housing accommodation supports the student’s medical or disability-related needs. Accommodations in the residential environment are approved to accommodate students’ documented disability-related needs. Please be aware that a diagnosis in and of itself does not automatically qualify you for housing accommodations. Depending on the nature of the accommodation request, the availability of a housing accommodation may be limited.

Housing accommodation requests for the next academic year (2023-2024)

  • Must be submitted by February 15th (current students) or June 1 (incoming first-year students)
  • Please note the review process typically requires 7 to 10 business days.
  • Requests not made within a reasonable time frame may result in the College not being able to provide the requested accommodation.
  • Residence Life provides detailed information about what is provided in rooms and building features. Please refer to the Residence Life website for answers to many questions regarding rooms and residence halls.
How to make a housing accommodation request
  1. The student will complete the Student Intake Form and submit documentation of their disability that supports the requested housing accommodation(s) to Accessibility Services. Accessibility Services will notify the student via Lafayette email that their information has been received.
  2. Accessibility Services will review the documentation and gather additional details from the student if necessary.
    • If the documentation supports the requested accommodation, Accessibility Services will email a letter to the student via Lafayette email and copy Residence Life that states the approved accommodation(s).
    • If the housing request is not supported, Accessibility Services will contact the student directly to notify them of the decision or to request additional documentation.
